Just a horror story that I'm hoping someone will know something about. I'm fairly new to Nokia IPSO adminstration and attempted to upgrade IPSO 3.2.1 to IPSO 3.7.1 build010. I upgraded using the command "newimage -l ipso.tgz" (should I have also specified "-b"?). Upgrade seemed to go well untill the fw was rebooted whereby it would perpertually reboot every time the bootmanager was loaded.
To bypass this recurring reboot I interrupted the boot manager and tried to re-install by typing "install" at the boot prompt. It prompted me to specify local and remote ip's and ftp information. FTP of the image file seemed to go well and it prompted that it was going to reboot again. This is where things got really weird. Console and IP stopped responding all together. Repeated physical power down/up will not bring up any console prompts or any other info. I've got a feeling that some sort of flash rom or eprom has become corrupted.
Does anyone know of this or has any ideas how to resolve this? The firewall has no CD devices so I can't boot from CD. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bernard.
I did run into a similar problem that you are having now when I upgraded my firewall from IPSO 3.5 to IPSO 3.7.1 build010. I did a "/etc/newimage -i -k" from the console. After the upgrade and a reboot, the firewall refused to comeback. However, I could not reproduce this problem on other IP650s so I am not sure if it is just a one time deal.
I would advise you to do this:
1) do a boot manager install of either IPSO3.5 or IPSO 3.7.1 build004,
2) "/etc/newimage -i -k" and install IPSO3.7.1 build010,
I haven't had any problems since that one time incident.
i've seen Compatibility Matrix, but your version isn't displayed (i.e. 3.2.1) but i see the solution on nokia support, describing your problem, res 5017 (nokia reference) and if didn't upgrade boot manager before you'll see this error.
